Hi everyone ... here begins a wee experiment in information sharing for the best readers in the blogosphere, the Stock Gumshoe audience. Share whatever you want here -- your sleuthing experience, teasers you can't solve but have some clues on, or things you have solved and don't want to let the Gumshoe take credit for.
The explanation and rules are thus, copied from my post at the Gumshoe:
Membership is automatic and doesn't require my approval. I can remove you if you become a problem, however. If this grows beyond a small group, I may exert more control over the membership.
Respect copyright -- that means no copying and pasting whole ads or emails into the forums. Just quote, please, or provide links. Yes, email and advertising is copyrighted.
Be nice. Seriously.
Let me know if you want a new category and I'll start it up. So far, the categories are thus:
General -- for any sleuthing stuff, stocks you've found or can't find, or things that the Gumshoe has ignored because he can't figure them out or thinks they're insoluble.
Recommendations -- for you to recommend investments. You can even tout your own stocks in this category if you want, but do not do it anywhere else on the boards. I'd avoid this category if I were you, but I thought we should have a place where people can "sell" their own investments just like the newsletters do. If you submit, "buy XXX now it's going to the moon!" I feel sorry for you but will allow it in this folder. If you write it in another folder where it can irritate the rest of us, no more forum for you.
Newsletter Experiences -- I hear via email from a lot of you who like/hate/regret/adore the newsletters you've subscribed to in the past. Interesting info -- let's share it with everyone, since it doesn't do much good for the consumers of the world in my email box.
yeeehaaaaaa! u r d best gumshoe. iknow i speak 4 evr1. iz it ok to talk about forex stuff? I, strobux, will all way's be respectful of the site and fellow sleuth's. May the buck's be with you {and me too} "prospero perterabo" strobux
great site! glad I found this site....what great help to the people who are curious about the marketing teasers but didn't want to drop a ton of money for a simple recommendation. you are god sent.
We all receive various "teasers" from newsletter publishers hungry to take our credit card info.......One that was received today that we should "sluth" is from the SOVEREIGN SOCIETY,,,,,,They speak of two areas of interest:
1) A commodity that goes up @ 12% a year, year in, year out,,,,,,,"this commodity is so hot that investors will dump their entire portfolio before letting go of this elite investment!" One of the "most scarce" yet attractive commodity that money can buy!" What is it? I would guess platinum or another exotic metal, (radium?) but I will leave this to the super sluths in metals. 2). The same newsletter suggests there are at least two gold stocks to buy before the bull market resumes in gold. Any ideas who we should be buying? The big "boys" like GG and NEM have been miserable stocks to be long recently, (some short $$$ has been made!). Sluths?
I'm working on adding a notification function, so that you'll get emails when there's a new post on the forums, in a particular category, or in a particular discussion thread (your choice). Testing it now, let me know if you try it and it works or doesn't work.
This is the best site in my "favorites." I used to try sleuthing the stock names from the hype and I was "right" about 90% of the time. Now, I just come here, where I get the straight word ALL THE TIME! Congratulations, SG, you are an "internet treasure!"
Now, let me rant! I write for a living (no...not financial stuff...tech marketing white papers), so I know hype when I see it! But, even I can be taken in! I bit on the new Stansberry "dividend grab" product and ponied-up $500 for an early-bird special, on the assurance that anyone else would pay $1,000 a year for the same thing after a specific date and time.
The "dividend grab" product is allegedly an advisory/selection service that locates "large special dividends" about to be paid by companies seeking, for example, to prevent leveraged takeover by private equity firms, by encumbering themsleves with debt and distributing the proceeds to their shareholders. Sounds good, eh?
Once you get "in," however, you discover that the "grand strategy" you've bought is to buy these stocks after they go EX-DIVIDEND (that is, after the stock's price drops by the amount of the dividend), and to HOLD the stock for 6-12 (or more!) months, on their "assurance" that most such stocks recover their price within that time! I hung around long enough to convince myself that there were better uses for my money, so I bailed!
Anyone can find upcoming "special dividends." That's easy! Anyone can ignore the big dividend, wait 'til it's paid and the stock trades at a discount! That's no big deal. The big question mark is "should anyone tie-up lotsa bucks on the HOPE that the stock will go back to where it was a year earlier?" I did not view Stansberry's answer as being worth $500, $5, or even 5 cents
I suggest you pass on the "dividend grab" product. To Stansberry's credit, I had no hassle in cancelling, though I have not yet received my credit card statement to verify that my $500 fee was refunded as had been promised.
Has anybody got a "good" service that can help me make some money?
Greetings all you Gumshoers! I recently joined and heartily second all the comments about how great this site is!
Here's a question for anyone out there:
One of these information services for sale emailed me a teaser about a small silicon valley co. with a pending court case against one of the big video game cos. (which turned out to be Sony). After some time searching (I didn't know about Gumshoe then), this small co. turned out to be Immersion Corp. which owns the patents to the best "haptic" technology.
Well, that pick turned out to be an excellent one. I bot the stock and some call options and it turned out well, giving me a nice profit and it's still going up.
Now I forgot, but does anyone know which stock info. service (that sends the teasers) picked that one?
Also, if anyone out there subscribes to Jon Najarian's options service (his highly touted "heatseeker"), how is that working out for you?
Hi GS... I'm the newest member, and what a joy to find this site!!! Although I'm old enough to know better, I think I'm the most gullible person out there and was a regular victim of this kind of hype. Bless you my child!!!
To Scott2000, I think that letter is from Mt. Vernon Investment U, Accelerated Profits. I bought IMMR too, but it didn't do anything in my time frame so i let it go. Patience is virtue!
FYI. I sold MPEL recently and anyone else who has had their head handed to them on this one from china strategy ( robert hszu sp? ) might want to do the same for now. on june 16, mpel is unlocking over 60 million shares so the stock will surely dive further but after the dust settles from that I would look to reown for longer term to cash in on macau gambling story. Gumshoe can probably add some insight here and maybe setup a future purchase scenario when the time is appropriate to reenter this stock.
Thanks for the confidence, viking, but I must admit I had never even heard of MPEL before ... and so far all I know is that it's another Macau play, I'll have to take a gander.
HERE's a Mark Skousen teaser...insider buying stock...just received it in my incoming email box.
INSIDERS BUY $9.3 MILLION LAST MONTH ALONE... WHAT DO THEY KNOW?
Last month, insiders at this little-known gem of a high-income company purchased more than 525,000 shares of their own stock at a personal cost to them of $9.3 million!
But, it wasn't just one overly optimistic insider... it was SIX of the top company executives pooling their funds to buy an additional $9.3 million stake in their stock!
With a conviction that strong from top insiders in this great company... this stock must be about to explode!
This company invests in tax-exempt state and local mortgage bonds that finance multi-family low-income housing around the country. Similar to most mortgage companies, their revenues have been up, but earnings have been down and so has the price of the stock.
Still, it looks like this finance company is well on its way to a strong recovery. It has a rising dividend policy and is currently boasting an outstanding 9.2% yield. And most importantly, there's HUGE insider buying going on right now!
You see, these company insiders know something we only suspected... that this stock is preparing to shoot through the roof!
Don't waste any time, find out the name of this stellar high-dividend company and instructions on how to buy it within minutes when you sign up for Forecasts & Strategies.
