hello everybody, I found out in HUlbert that some of Cabots services are highly ranked. Have you tried them????? The price seems ok and the the past performance is pretty good. Thanks!!
You need to know exactly what you're looking for here, I twice took a trial to the wrong letter, once it was my fault completely, but the other time was, 'er, 'er sort of misleading. They do honor their MBG's, so it's not a total loss if you're not satisfied.
Last year they BOOMED with commodity type stocks, as did I until the U308 stocks tanked. Gold, Silver Copper & zinc were hot too.
thanks everyone, yeah i was wondering cuz cabots emerging market newslettet made up 70% last year and cabots marketmail made up like 35%. ill take a look at the womanwithportoflio, where can i lfind it?
The Cabot letter that has been a big winner is the China and Emerging Markets one (don't remember exactly what it's called), which had one or two really big years, probably not surprisingly. I haven't looked at wwp's protected stuff on her website and don't know if she technically does buy/sell recommendations or not, but she is a very valued contributor here and always has her toe in hot sectors. It's womanwithportfolio.com , if she notices this thread perhaps she'll jump in and introduce herself and explain what she offers in her membership site (I know she doesn't push her service here, which we all appreciate, but it's great to have her perspective ... and it's fine if she toots her own horn sometimes). I know she does have one model portfolio, at least, and has had a good six months or so riding some trends, including agriculture and Brazil.
Thanks, Gumshoe. I appreciate the kind words. I’ve really enjoyed this site, and I’ve benefited from it in many ways. It’s interesting to see how other folks think about investing and to get their insights (I encourage everyone to become a Gumshoe Irregular. It’s well worth it.)
My Web site is not really a newsletter along the lines of the ones we’re trying to demystify on this site. It’s an interactive online community, with parts of it free and open to all, and parts of it for those who join. My mission has been to educate women about investing and about improving their investment skills (and making lots of money, of course). But men have been joining as well, and they’re welcome. We have an active forum and an RSS feed so that folks can get the latest updates on an RSS reader. We do have a model portfolio, which has done quite well, and I highlight stocks, sectors and countries that I think look most promising. I advocate a “pyramid” allocation of assets, with a good base of index funds at the bottom, topped by a layer of solid long-term blue chips, then a smaller layer of sector stars (which shift), and a tiny topping of more risky stocks with a high potential of return.
As Gumshoe said, we were in early on agriculture and Brazil (nice gains on Mosaic and Siderurgica, for example). I’m a sector freak like Farley. (Apologies to Farley. I'm a sector freak. He's a cool-headed sector analyst.) We also focus on energy, old school and new, and that has broad applications. We recently made a 50% gain on Cummins, for example, as well as Petrobras. And I also seek out what I call chili pepper stocks, which are only for those with fun money. (We just made a really nice gain on Artificial Life, from 1.60 to 2.60.)
Again, thanks, Gumshoe, for the opportunity to talk about my site. And now I’ll go back to being one of your appreciative Irregulars.
WWP- What do you know about Orion Energy Systems Inc (OESX). A manufacturer of a "green" energy saving system that uses HIF (high-intensity fluorescent lighting and daylight transmitting tubing to conserve energy rather tha LED's. It'more than 50% off it's recent high. It IPO'ed in Dec 2007@$13+ reached a high of $27+ But was hit with a lawsuit that according to some sources is frivilous. Current share price around $12. Institutions hold approx 42% of it's shares.
Slam, I think OESX is probably a good buy under $12. I've mentioned it on my Web site because of the cheap price and because it's filling one of the big needs of industry to conserve energy. There are a lot of cases where high-intensity fluorescent lighting works where LEDs don't. (Though LEDs are certainly the wave of the future.) I've seen what I think are legitimate target prices of $28. Their latest report affirmed the company's ability to grow 50% a year. The lawsuit looks like a typical stock-drop type, and those are a dime a dozen. I wouldn't bet the house on it, but it's certainly worth watching.
