From IDE tease- Any ideas on the company name? (Excerpts below)
America's Super Wealthy Just Poured Nearly Two-Thirds of a Billion Dollars Into This Soon-to-Be Blue Chip Company
This small company has earned the full faith and backing of some of America's richest investors, most successful investment bankers and biggest philanthropist... that's right, philanthropist...
They've poured more than $630 million into this company since Sept. 30, 2007.
Among them are the The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, JPMorganChase, Ned Johnson (the multi-billionaire head of Fidelity Investments) and John Granahan (famed portfolio manager), to name just a few of the legends on board already.
What distinguishes this company is that it has what many consider the best pipeline in biotech.
Ask those in the know, "who's got pipeline" and this company's name comes up more often than any other. With six distinct therapies that are well along in development, each with multiple possibilities, it's no wonder.
And this biotech's specialty may be THE hottest area in biotech-genetic research today.
That's because it's become a leader in monoclonal-antibody technology field...
The great news is that today, you shouldn't need to pay anywhere near $11.24... the price the masters of the universe paid.
That's because the fear that swept the markets in January punished the good and the bad alike.
Somewhere between $9 and $11 should be your target.
I researched this one and it is Seattle Genetics (SGEN). It does look good but of course with biotech, it is a bit of a crap shoot and the technology is hard to really understand if you're not in that line of business. Every biotech stock seems to be on the verge of exploding upwards!
Wonder how someone could confirm the high volume of stock purchases reportedly made and if this is just normal speculation or possibly just a speculative tax loss buy? Not that Bill gates would care but perhaps the foundation tax accountants would.
Anyway, I'll keep it on a watch list and look around for more info to report.
The Baker Bros., who are considered whizzes in biotech, and advise foundations, universities, etc. have had SGEN for a while, and they're still buying, including right at the end of '07, so it wouldn't have been for a tax loss. This stock is certainly worth watching. I'm going to look into it further.
